In September 2025, Strathclyde's transport authority – SPT – finally approved ambitious plans to take our buses back into public control using the new bus franchising powers in the Transport Act 2019.

The Scottish Government are now holding things up – they have created the most complex and time-consuming bus franchising legislation in the UK, which means we could be waiting until 2031 to see any change on our streets.
Ahead of the election in May 2026, please take two minutes to email your MSPs and demand they help speed up the process of bus franchising in Scotland.
Better Buses for Strathclyde was launched in September 2023. We've made a lot of progress since then – with more than 12,000 people and 50 organisations now supporting our campaign.
